1. What does CIJ stand for?

CIJ stands for Continuous Inkjet. The printer forms a stream of small ink droplets and selects some of them to print, resulting in characters that are deposited on the product. Unused droplets are recirculated back into the printer, eventually becoming part of the ink stream again.

2. What is the working principle of CIJ?

CIJ printers charge individual ink droplets that make up the information. Each droplet carries a specific charge, causing it to pass through a magnetic field generated inside the print head. The amount of charge on the droplet determines how much it deflects in the magnetic field. The droplets that deflect the most form the top row of the code, or the top droplets of a single-line code. Droplets that deflect less form the bottom row or bottom droplets of the single-line characters. Uncharged droplets do not deflect and fall back into the print head to return to the ink system.

3. What applications are recommended for CIJ?

CIJ printers can be used to print on materials such as paper, plastic, metal, and glass. Typical applications include milk containers, soda cans, pharmaceuticals, small cardboard boxes, cable, and small part marking.

4. What is the difference between CIJ and contact coding machines?

CIJ printers never contact the product. CIJ printers spray ink droplets into the air, printing the code according to the programming in the printer as the moving product passes by. The distance between the printer head and the product is typically 3/16 inches.

5. How does CIJ differ from LCM technology?

LCM, or Large Character Marking, is sometimes referred to as DOD (Drop-On-Demand) technology. LCM printers are typically used for secondary packaging that requires larger font sizes. CIJ font heights usually range from 1/8 inch to ½ inch, while LCM character heights can exceed 2 inches.

6. What is the difference between CIJ and DOD technology?

The difference between CIJ and DOD is that in CIJ, the ink continuously circulates from the fluid system through the print head and back into the fluid system. In DOD technology, the ink is only dispersed when the printer is actively printing.

The inks are designed to penetrate surface contaminants, such as moisture on beverage bottles, release agents on blow-molded plastic bottles, and oils on metal stampings and extrusions. Specialized inks can resist solvents encountered in electronic components or military specifications, or prevent product content from leaking during manufacturing or everyday consumer use. Some inks dry quickly and are compatible with high-speed roll or film packaging production lines. Others are formulated and manufactured in our food-grade production facility for direct imaging on food. Additional inks have been developed for product decoration and are optimized for linear and 2D barcodes. Some inks exhibit good lightfastness against prolonged sun exposure, while others change color to indicate evidence of the cooking process.

9. Which ink should I use for my specific application?

Our team of application support chemists is one of the best ways to find the right ink that meets your and your customers' specific application needs. Therefore, selecting the best ink starts with us asking you a few questions, such as:

• What are the material components of your product? Is it glass, metal, plastic, etc.? If it's plastic, what type of plastic? HDPE, LDPE, PE, PP, etc.?
• How fast does this ink need to dry? More specifically, what will initially contact the code and what pressure and heat will it endure?
• What state is your product in before coding? Is it wet, oily, hot, cold, clean, etc.?
• What must the ink code endure after it is printed on your product? What types of product liquids or solvents are involved in your or your customer's processes (water, corrosives, oil, alcohol, heat, sunlight, steam, etc.)?
• What kind of adhesion properties do you need, or in other words, how well and for how long do you need the code to adhere to the product throughout its desired lifecycle? Do you need the code to be removable, etc.?

10. What colors of ink do you offer?

Depending on the selected printer series, our color range includes black and high-contrast white, yellow, blue, and red. Additionally, we offer orange, green, brown, purple, pink, gray, and magenta. We also provide invisible inks that are visible under ultraviolet light and inks that change color during cooking. Not all printer models offer all colors. 11. Can I order samples?

Yes, you can. You are welcome to purchase small quantities first to test and check the quality before placing a large order. Please let us know your courier account number so that we can charge the shipping fee.

12. What is the normal lead time for an order?

The lead time for all Syscode products is 1-2 weeks after order confirmation. For stock items, they can usually be shipped within 2 business days, but this depends on the order quantity.

13. What is the warranty period for Syscode products?

It is usually 12 months after leaving the Syscode warehouse.

14. How do you ship goods?

We can ship goods by sea, air, or courier.

15. Can you ship goods on pallets or in boxes?

Usually, we suggest you pay the payment by wire transfer. For order values less than 5000 USD, please pay 100% via wire transfer in advance; for larger orders, 70% deposit and 30% via wire transfer upon receipt of the bill of lading.
